Massive response to appeal for ‘place to stay’ for father of worst-injured victim in Albufeira’s ramming rampage – Portugal Resident
In less than 24-hours, there has been a massive and heartwarming response to the social media appeal sent out appealing for a ‘place to stay’ for the father of the worst-injured victim in Albufeira’s ramming rampage.
Louane Castro is in a critical condition. Her injuries have been starkly laid out by the president of Portimão Hospital, Tiago Botelho, and by her uncle, who lives here, Orlando Castro.
These first days are ‘critical’ to understanding the 20-year-old’s prognosis, and naturally her father – a Portuguese emigré living in Luxembourg – wants to be by her bedside. But until last night, he only had accommodation secured locally until tomorrow (Sunday).
That has all changed as a result of the appeal, sent out by the communities of Albufeira and Portimão, which has seen a stream of offers for help come through, many of them seemingly happy to offer space for no charge at all.
Just reading the messages is a humbling experience – as one commentator has remarked: “Humanity is not totally lost”.
It seems certain now that Louane’s father will be able to put at least one worry behind him, and concentrate on supporting his daughter who remains in the care of Portimão Hospital.
A new message posted on ‘Albufeira em Alerta’ Facebook page has thanked everyone for their wonderful support, and given an update on Louane’s condition, explaining that the recovery process is ‘complex’ because her pelvis “has very unstable fractures (in a situation comparable to the shell of a boiled egg).
“She has already undergone an initial surgery to immobilise the area, but at the moment she is still not stable enough to proceed with the remaining necessary surgical interventions.
“We will continue to follow the case and root with all our strength for Louane’s swift and full recovery.”
The instigator of the horror that befell Albufeira’s party district last Tuesday is now on remand in Silves prison as PJ police look into his background, to see if there may have been a reason for his relentless car rampage that injured 16 people, including two police agents. It has already been established that 35-year-old Fábio Yesson Nunes was driving without a valid licence (the licences he has appear to have been falsified), and latest reports suggest the Portuguese/ Angolan has a permanent resident in Paris, albeit when in this country, he has a base in Odivelas (Lisbon Metropolitan Area).
