Lagoa council launches WhatsApp channel – Portugal Resident
Residents and visitors in Lagoa can now receive municipal news and alerts directly through WhatsApp.
The municipal council has announced the launch of a new communication channel aimed at making it easier to keep people informed about local events and public services.
The free service will provide subscribers with updates on topics including road closures, municipal services, cultural events, public notices, emergency alerts and other information of public interest.
According to the council, the initiative forms part of its wider digital transformation strategy, allowing it to communicate with residents through one of the world’s most widely used messaging apps.
Mayor Luís Encarnação said it is important for the municipality to adapt to the way people now consume information.
“It is essential that the municipality keeps pace with the evolution of citizens’ communication habits by offering increasingly accessible, simple and effective channels for sharing relevant information,” he said.
Encarnação added that the new service will strengthen communication between the council and residents by ensuring important information reaches people quickly and conveniently.
People wishing to subscribe simply need to save the number 936 001 874 to their phone’s contacts and send the message “Olá” (“Hello”) via WhatsApp. Once registered, they will begin receiving official updates from the municipality.
The council says the service has been designed with privacy in mind, with subscribers’ phone numbers and personal details remaining hidden from other users.
