Portimão to get new €5.7 million sports pavilion – Portugal Resident
Construction has begun on a new €5.65 million sports pavilion in Portimão, with the project set to deliver a modern indoor sports venue, upgraded green spaces and improved public amenities in one of the city’s fastest-growing residential areas.
Fully funded by the Municipal Council of Portimão, the development will replace the ageing sports facility in the Quinta do Amparo neighbourhood with a contemporary, multi-purpose pavilion designed to accommodate a range of sports, competitions and community events.

The new pavilion will feature a full-size indoor court, support rooms for sports activities, changing rooms, technical offices and a 500-seat grandstand, creating improved conditions for both athletes and spectators.
The project extends well beyond the construction of the sports hall. It also includes the complete redevelopment of the surrounding public space, with the adjacent garden being redesigned to include accessible pathways, ramps, steps and renewed green areas, creating a more attractive and welcoming environment for residents, the council explains.

A new car park with 55 spaces will also be built to improve access to the facility.
According to the municipality, the investment is intended to respond to the needs of a part of the city that has seen significant population growth in recent years, while expanding the range of public sports and leisure facilities available to residents.
The contract has been awarded to Ferreira – Construção, S.A., with the works expected to take 540 days to complete – meaning it should be completed in early 2028. Construction is currently in its initial phase, with the site being prepared ahead of the main building works.

Once finished, the development will provide Portimão’s Quinta do Amparo neighbourhood with “one of the most complete sports, leisure and community spaces in the city,” the council adds.
