Pinetrees anniversary raises €1,000 for children’s charity – Portugal Resident
Pinetrees Riding Centre, in Almancil, marked its 41st anniversary with a day of equestrian competition, family entertainment and fundraising, raising €1,000 for ACCA’s Back to School project, which supports underprivileged children across the Algarve.
Held on July 26 and sponsored by SandyBlue, the celebrations attracted riders, families and volunteers for an afternoon of activities at the centre.
The ever-popular fancy dress competition, themed “Portugal”, produced a colourful display, with Maia and her horse Frodo taking first prize for their “Flowers of Portugal” costume. Judges Bev McHale and Paula Siebert praised the creativity of the entrants.

A highlight of the afternoon was a dressage demonstration by former Pinetrees pupil Karolina Bialek on her black Lusitano, Dragão. Trained by Iris Miranda of Lusitanus Miranda, Bialek now competes at national level. Judge Bev McHale provided a live commentary, explaining the movements performed during the display.
Riders then tackled an obstacle course across three competition levels before taking part in clear-round jumping. German visitor Laura Frobeen won the first category, while Sienna celebrated her first SandyBlue trophy and commemorative rosette.
Away from the arena, visitors enjoyed an art competition, won by Sophie, while local businesses showcased equestrian equipment and handmade accessories. Stewart Lindsey provided refreshments throughout the day, with burgers, hot dogs and vegan options, while the celebrations concluded with birthday cake supplied by Pastelaria Charlotte.

Proceeds from the event will help fund ACCA’s annual Back to School campaign, which provides backpacks filled with school essentials for children from disadvantaged families. Each fully equipped backpack costs around €45, meaning the funds raised will help dozens of children begin the new school year with the supplies they need.
Organisers thanked SandyBlue, the volunteers, local businesses and everyone who attended for helping make the event another successful celebration of the riding centre and its commitment to the local community.
