Fourteen firefighting aircraft battle wildfire in Guarda district – Portugal Resident
By 5pm today, a wildfire that broke out at 1.40pm in Vila Ruiva, in the northern borough of Fornos de Algodres, was being tackled by 14 firefighting aircraft and over 300 operatives, backed by 75 appliances.
Fornos de Algodres mayor, Alexandre Lote, has explained that combat is proving difficult, with the fire is moving towards the borough of Celorico da Beira.
For now, damages are confined to scrubland/ forested areas in and around Vila Ruiva and Vila Soeiro do Chão, with efforts focused on trying to put this blaze out before it grows any larger, and before it starts threatening any residential areas.
