Man accused of secretly photographing women and children at Algarve beach – Portugal Resident

A man has been identified by the Maritime Police after allegedly taking photographs of women and minors without their consent at Monte Clérigo beach in Aljezur.

The incident occurred on Saturday and has now been referred to the Public Prosecution Service.

Speaking to Notícias ao Minuto, the commander of the Port of Lagos Captaincy said Maritime Police officers attended the scene after receiving complaints, identified both the complainants and the alleged suspect, and seized the images.

“The case file was forwarded to the Public Prosecution Service this morning,” the commander said, adding that the photographs are now in the possession of the Maritime Police.

According to Correio da Manhã, the suspect is believed to be a Spanish national. He was reportedly confronted by a group of young people on the beach after they noticed him taking photographs.

Videos shared on social media appear to show multiple images of women on the beach allegedly taken without their knowledge or consent.

The circumstances surrounding the photographs and whether any criminal offences were committed will now be assessed by prosecutors.

The Maritime Police have not released further details about the suspect or the ongoing investigation.
