Pêra’s Arraial do Petisco returns with six nights of food and music – Portugal Resident
The popular Arraial do Petisco returns to the village of Pêra, in the municipality of Silves, this month, offering six evenings of traditional Algarve cuisine, live music and community spirit.
Now in its 26th edition, the event will take place on July 24, 25, 26 and 31, and August 1 and 2 at the village’s sports ground (Polidesportivo da Vila de Pêra), with festivities running from 8pm until 2am each night.
Visitors can sample a wide selection of regional specialities, including papas de milho (maize porridge), carapaus alimados (marinated horse mackerel), caracóis (snails), pipis (chicken giblets), xerém de camarão (shrimp cornmeal dish) and the event’s signature “Petisco da Casa”.
Different main dishes will also be served on selected evenings, including lamb stew on Fridays, cuttlefish bean stew on Saturdays and chicken cabidela on Sundays.
Those with a sweet tooth can enjoy a variety of traditional Algarve desserts, including Dom Rodrigo, bolas de ovo, tortes and almond sweets.
Organisers say all proceeds from the event will go towards the Centro Paroquial de Pêra, which provides year-round support to around 200 vulnerable people in the local community.
The event also relies on the efforts of volunteers, local businesses, sponsors, institutional partners and community associations.
Entry costs €2, while children aged 12 and under can attend free of charge.
