Portugal rejects extradition of Frenchman accused of killing mothers of his children – Portugal Resident

Coimbra appeal court judges have refused to execute a European arrest warrant, issued by authorities in France, that would allow for the extradition of Cédric Prizzon – the former policeman arrested in Mêda in March, and later discovered to be ‘on the run’, with his two children and a terrible ‘secret’.

Elio Prizzon told that secret to police after they arrested his father for driving with false documents, and possession of a prohibited weapon: his father had killed his own mother, as well as the mother of his baby sister, and buried them close to the Spanish border in Bragança.

Subsequent interrogation of Prizzon led to the discovery of the women’s bodies.

Since then, Prizzon has remained in preventive custody – authorities in Portugal always being clear that they expect any prosecution to take place here, because Prizzon’s victims were killed in Portugal.

The former policeman, aged 42, thus faces charges of murder, the desecration of two bodies, kidnapping, domestic violence against a minor, document falsification and detention of an illegal weapon.

Appearing before the court in Foz Côa that initially remanded him in pre-trial detention, Prizzon blamed the French justice system and the two women that he is suspected of having killed for this terrible story.

Prizzon’s victims were Élio’s mother, Audrey Cavalié, 40, and Angela Legobien-Cadillac, 26, the mother of his 18-month old daughter Giuluya.

Audrey Cavalié’s mother has hired a lawyer who believes the correct place for the trial is France, as it involves French citizens. But Portuguese law enforcement disagrees.
