Vodafone chooses Lisbon for new global cybersecurity centre – Portugal Resident
Vodafone has chosen Lisbon for a new strategic cybersecurity centre that will help protect the telecoms group’s operations, networks and customers worldwide.
The Global Cyber Centre – Lisbon will initially employ around 40 specialists, with recruitment already under way and expected to continue until the end of the year.
Based at Vodafone Portugal’s headquarters, the centre will form part of a global cybersecurity network with existing hubs in the UK, Germany, Romania and India.
Vodafone described the project as a long-term investment intended to expand its ability to anticipate, detect and respond to cyber threats across international markets.
Its Lisbon teams will work on security strategy and architecture, infrastructure protection, risk management and incident prevention and response.
The centre will also oversee the secure development of Vodafone and third-party systems, continuous threat monitoring and security involving emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence.
Other responsibilities will include cybersecurity operations, technology demonstrations and engagement with business customers and other parts of the Vodafone group.
Applicants with experience in cybersecurity, engineering, digital transformation and emerging technologies are being recruited externally through Vodafone’s careers website. Existing employees may also join through professional development and reskilling programmes.
Vodafone Portugal chief executive Luís Lopes said Lisbon had been selected because of the expertise developed within the Portuguese operation and the quality of cybersecurity specialists emerging from the country’s universities.
“This is a very significant step towards positioning Portugal and its talent on the global cybersecurity map,” he said.
Vodafone’s global chief information security officer, Emma Smith, said the new centre would help the company maintain customer trust as cyber threats become increasingly international and sophisticated.
