Loulé to assess schools for air conditioning and energy upgrades – Portugal Resident

Loulé Municipal Council is investing €200,000 in a comprehensive assessment of its public schools as it prepares to install air conditioning and improve the energy efficiency of school buildings across the municipality.

The project will examine thermal comfort and energy needs at schools throughout the council area, identifying the most appropriate and sustainable solutions before air conditioning systems are installed.

Rather than funding the installation itself, the investment will cover the technical studies and planning needed to determine the requirements of each school.

The initiative forms part of the municipality’s broader climate action strategy and aims to create more comfortable learning environments for pupils, teachers and school staff while reducing energy consumption.

Because of the size of Loulé’s school network, the work has been divided into two geographical contracts.

The first covers schools in the Padre João Coelho Cabanita and Eng.º Duarte Pacheco school groups, as well as the Francisco Rosado Conservatory of Music in Loulé.

The second includes schools in the Almancil, Dr.ª Laura Ayres (Quarteira) and D. Dinis de Quarteira school groups.

Once the assessments are complete, the findings will be used to guide the future installation of air conditioning systems and other energy-efficiency improvements tailored to each building.
