Barack Obama to attend leadership forum in Portugal – Portugal Resident
Former US president Barack Obama will return to Portugal this October as the headline speaker at the Game Changers Forum, where he is set to discuss leadership, resilience and creating positive global impact.
The event is scheduled for Saturday, October 10, starting at 3pm at Lisbon’s flagship venue MEO Arena.
The organisers announced on Thursday that Obama, the 44th president of the United States, will lead a keynote conversation at the sixth edition of the event, which will bring together more than 30 national and international speakers.
The forum, which is open to the public, focuses on leadership, innovation and social impact, attracting business leaders, entrepreneurs and decision-makers from Portugal and abroad.
Although this will be his first public appearance in Portugal for several years, Obama has visited the country on a number of occasions.
In 2010, while serving as US president, he travelled to Lisbon to attend the EU-US Summit and the NATO Summit.
He returned in 2016, making a technical stop at Lajes Air Base in the Azores while travelling from Germany to Peru during his final official trip to Europe as president.
In 2018, after leaving the White House, Obama spoke at a conference in Porto, where he highlighted the importance of tackling climate change – one of the defining priorities of his presidency.
Obama served two terms as US president between 2009 and 2017. Since leaving office, he has remained active through the Obama Foundation, speaking regularly on leadership, democracy, civic engagement and climate action.
Tickets for the Game Changers Forum can be purchased online, with ticket prices ranging from €34 to €77.
