Boy, 11, stabs father “trying to protect mother” in Lisbon – Portugal Resident
An 11-year-old boy allegedly stabbed his father while trying to protect his mother during a domestic violence incident in Lisbon this morning, police have confirmed.
The incident occurred at around 11am in São Domingos de Benfica, near Estrada da Luz.
According to Portugal’s Public Security Police (PSP), officers responding to reports of domestic violence found the child on the staircase of the apartment building still holding the knife.
Preliminary inquiries suggest the 61-year-old father and the 42-year-old mother had been involved in what police described as mutual physical assaults before the boy intervened.
The child allegedly stabbed his father in the arm and leg, causing minor injuries. The man was treated by firefighters before being taken to Espaço Júlia, Lisbon’s specialist support centre for victims of domestic violence, where he was to be questioned by police.
The woman was taken to the PSP station in Telheiras to make a formal complaint and complete the necessary police procedures.
Police have not disclosed the boy’s current whereabouts but said child protection procedures are underway to ensure his safety and welfare.
The circumstances surrounding the incident remain under investigation by the PSP.
