Faro’s Festival F to showcase Portugal’s biggest music stars – Portugal Resident

One of Portugal’s biggest celebrations of homegrown music is returning to the Algarve this September, with more than 60 concerts set to transform Faro’s historic old town during the 11^th edition of Festival F.

Taking place from September 3 to 5, the festival will once again fill the narrow streets, squares and courtyards of the city’s Vila Adentro with live performances across eight stages, alongside exhibitions, talks, street performances, artisan markets and family activities.

Unlike many summer festivals that rely on international headliners, Festival F is dedicated to showcasing the very best of Portuguese music, making it an ideal opportunity for expatriates, tourists and other international residents to discover some of the country’s most popular artists in one place.

The line-up spans pop, rock, hip-hop, electronic music, jazz and fado, while also strengthening the festival’s links with the wider Portuguese-speaking world through artists from Brazil and Cape Verde.

Among this year’s headline acts are acclaimed fado singer Carminho, who will perform alongside the Algarve Orchestra, alternative pop band The Gift, singer-songwriter Bárbara Tinoco, chart-topping pop trio D.A.M.A, hip-hop star Slow J, soul and funk band HMB, gothic metal band Moonspell, singer Áurea, rapper Chico da Tina, and Nelson Freitas, one of the biggest names in contemporary Cape Verdean music.

Brazilian rapper Tz da Coronel also joins the programme, reinforcing what organisers describe as Festival F’s commitment to celebrating the diversity of the Portuguese-speaking world.

Strong Algarve presence

Festival F continues to maintain a strong regional identity, with around 30% of this year’s programme featuring Algarve artists.

Organisers say the selection reflects the quality and vitality of the region’s music scene rather than any quota system, with local musicians performing alongside some of Portugal’s most established acts.

In total, the festival will feature 23 performances on September 3, 21 on September 4 and 22 on the closing day, spread across eight venues throughout Faro’s old town, including the Ria, Sé, Quintalão, Fábrica, Museu, Músicos, Arco and Castelo stages. This year, the castle will also host the popular Silent Party.

One of Portugal’s biggest music events

Since launching in 2014, Festival F has grown into one of Portugal’s largest cultural events.

According to organisers, the festival site has expanded from 5,000 square metres during its first edition to 38,500 square metres, while welcoming more than 350,000 visitors and staging over 560 concerts.

Presenting the programme, Faro mayor António Miguel Pina said the festival would continue to “celebrate the best of Portuguese music and culture” while reinforcing Faro’s position “as a reference point and the capital of music in southern Portugal”.

Tickets

Three-day passes are available in advance until July 31 for €45, while day tickets cost €20.

From August 1, prices increase to €54 for a three-day pass and €22 for a daily ticket.

Children aged 3 to 12 receive free admission when accompanied by an adult.
