Free sunset concerts return to Lisbon’s São Jorge Castle – Portugal Resident
One of Lisbon’s most popular summer music events is returning next month, with free sunset DJ sets and concerts taking place at São Jorge Castle every Saturday in August.
The sixth edition of Pôr do Sol no Castelo will be held on August 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29, offering visitors the chance to enjoy live performances against the backdrop of panoramic views over the Portuguese capital.
All performances begin at 7pm. Entry is free, although access is subject to the venue’s capacity, with organisers advising visitors to arrive early.
The programme opens on August 1 with a DJ set by Umafricana, whose performances blend African rhythms with pop, R&B, Latin sounds and contemporary music.
On August 8, DJ and Rádio Quântica co-founder Violet will take to the stage with a set spanning techno, acid house, bass music and electronic sounds.
The following week, on August 15, DJ Fellaz will perform. Known for his roots in Portugal’s hip-hop scene since the early 2000s, he is recognised for energetic vinyl sets and original remixes.
The final two Saturdays switch from DJ sets to live performances. Lisbon trio Salamandra will perform on August 22, combining jazz influences with electronic music and hip-hop, while the series concludes on August 29 with Coletivo Gira, an ensemble created by immigrant women living in Portugal that celebrates Afro-Brazilian culture and promotes gender equality through samba.
Organisers describe the event as the return of “the city’s most emblematic sunset”, transforming the historic hilltop fortress into an open-air venue overlooking Lisbon.
