An appeal for Toffee – Portugal Resident
Just over a year ago, nine tiny puppies were discovered abandoned in a dumpster, frightened, vulnerable and completely dependent on the kindness of strangers. Thanks to the dedication of our foster families, volunteers and supporters, those puppies survived and slowly transformed into healthy, happy young dogs full of energy and curiosity.
One by one, the siblings found loving homes and began new lives. Now, only one remains waiting for his final journey — sweet Toffee.
Toffee has already found a family ready to welcome him in Denmark, but he urgently needs a flight volunteer travelling from Lisbon to Copenhagen with a major airline that accepts pets. Low-cost airlines unfortunately cannot transport animals in this way, which means the options are limited.
For those unfamiliar with the process, being a flight volunteer is far simpler than many people imagine. Cadela Carlota handles all of the paperwork, veterinary requirements and logistics. The volunteer simply allows the dog to be linked to their existing booking and accompanies them on the flight. It can quite literally change a dog’s life forever.

Toffee’s story is a reminder that rescue does not end when a dog leaves danger behind. Sometimes the final step towards a happy ending depends on someone being in the right place at the right time. We are hoping that this appeal reaches exactly that person.
If you, or somebody you know, is travelling from Lisbon to Copenhagen in the near future and would be willing to help Toffee reach his new family, please contact Cadela Carlota. Even sharing the appeal can make an enormous difference.
At the same time, we are continuing our new “Meet and Greet” events in Lagos, designed to help the public connect with the dogs behind the shelter gates. These relaxed gatherings give people the chance to spend time with some of our rescue dogs away from the shelter environment, learn about their personalities and hear more about the work our volunteers carry out every day.

Previous events have already helped raise awareness, attract support and even lead to adoptions. We are incredibly grateful to the volunteers who transport, walk and care for the dogs during these events, as well as local businesses who support the shelter.
Our next Meet and Greet will take place on Sunday, May 31, from 10.30am to noon at Captain Crumpet, Lagos Marina. We would especially like to thank Adam at Captain Crumpet for his continued kindness and support for the shelter and its dogs.
