questioning of 14 police still in preventive custody completed – Portugal Resident
Judicial questioning of all 14 police agents arrested in the latest round of detentions into the ongoing torture investigation has been completed. It is now up to the court to decide whether or not the men can ‘go home’, or whether they should be remanded in custody ahead of an eventual trial.
With nine police already in preventive custody in this complex investigation, SIC Notícias reports that prosecutors want the same for four of the 14. They are also reported to want ‘house arrest’ for another three agents.
SIC adds that each officer questioned denied the accusations (involving abuse of power, grievous bodily harm, etc).
Among those arrested, 13 are suspected of crimes of physical and psychological torture, SIC adds.
A decision on the men’s fate is expected over the course of the day.
